What is the Fire Sprinkler Initiative?

If you’ve been paying attention to our blog, you know how important we think residential fire sprinklers are. That’s why we fully support the Fire Sprinkler Initiative! The Fire Sprinkler Initiative is an effort launched by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to advocate for home fire sprinkler use across the country. The initiative is an attempt to spread information about the benefits of home fire sprinklers and how much of an impact they can make on fire safety.

Roughly 85% of all civilian structure fire deaths in 2010 resulted from home structure fires. If you have a reported fire in your home, the risk of dying decreases by about 80% when sprinklers are present.

The Fire Sprinkler Initiative, in cooperation with many other interested individuals and organizations, encourages the use of home fire sprinklers through increased awareness and adoption of local ordinances or model codes. Many states currently have their own individual Fire Sprinkler Coalitions, including Massachusetts, New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington. While Texas isn’t on that list yet, we hope we get there soon!

At Kauffman Co., we want everyone to be as safe as possible. That’s why we’ll never stop advocating for the use of home fire sprinklers! If you own a home in the Houston, Texas area and want to keep your family safe by installing a fire sprinkler system, call Kauffman Co. today!
